‘Ku Kane Lono’ was inspired be a beautiful book called ‘Urban Shaman’ by Serge Kahili King. He described Hawaiian shamanism simply and practically, with so much warmth, heart and grace. (He’s the only author I’ve read that actually looks and sounds exactly the way he writes. A sweet and lovely man). At that time, I was driving around the country performing at events and weddings living out of hotels and launderettes. Most memories are of munching a sloppy hotel buffet breakfast or waiting for my knickers to dry absolutely beaming with my head buried in the book. Whilst Ku, Kane and Lono have wider associations in a more religious context, as with all religions there is always a deeper, more esoteric and symbolic meaning behind each concept, which was the focus of Serge’s teachings here.

Ku = body (physical reality, raw materials, primal instinct)

Lono = mind (the intellect, story telling, knowledge)

Kane = spirit (higher knowing, source energy, divinity)
